This has been a long time coming, but for the last three plus years, I've been working on a book, and finally it's about to be born! You see the front cover here. For a long time I've wondered why the worlds of philosophical and technical things seemed to avoid each other. Do wrenches smell bad to philosophers? Are philosophers too much in their heads to care to stoop to physical realities? Does the technical world really have no use for all that heady, philosophical stuff? I think the answer to all of those questions is a resounding NO! In this book (and another that I hope will follow), I try to capture how these worlds can be of great benefit to each other in very practical, money-saving and even life-saving ways. I share how merging these worlds can help make life more comfortable, more rewarding and easier to navigate. Sounds like a tall claim for a wrench turner! This book is a series of essays on making things better and fixing things. Some are primarily technical, dealing with hot water (of course!), energy, building science, and housing. Some shine a light on different and productive ways of looking at things. Some are about realities hidden in plain sight. Others are all about this world we live in and our relationship with her. And then there are flights of fancy, there to play with and strengthen the imagination. Us serious grownups particularly, need a little fun sometimes! Anyway, I hope to have the book ready for prime time in one to two months. A lot has changed in the world of books since writing The Water Heater Workbook just over thirty years ago. This should be fun! Yours, Larry

Glad to be on this page. Because now I am "on the stage".

Looking back over my working life of 50+ years, it seems clear that self sufficiency has always been the best way for me to be useful. Now, mix in a strong interest in water in its many forms and the wide world of animals and you'll know what's important to me. Archives
